Hola, beauties!! Welcome back & if you're new here, welcome! It's all about the drugstore makeup kit, today, folks! Over the years, I've gotten quite a few questions about makeup that was either BGF (black girl friendly) or budget friendly & I think I've got a really good amount of options for you all! There's some higher end brands that do a decent job catering to us darker girls, but not everyone has that coin to spend on Estee Lauder, MAC or Makeup Forever. Usually we venture to Walmart, Walgreens or Target to find what we're looking for. Well, hopefully , my suggestions can make that a little easier for you! Since I've have so many things to discuss, I broke it up into 3 posts: face , eyes and lips. As you see by the title, this one is all about the face stuff!! So, if you're interested in learning all about my suggestions for face products, then grab a snack/drink and just keep on reading because this'll be a long one!
NYX First Base Primer Spray (retail $7.99)

My last, but certainly not least, blush recommendation!! This Sally's exclusive brand is very much in the same category as Makeup Revolution & City Color when it comes to color selection, pigmentation and lasting power. The only difference I really observe is the size--these are on the smaller side, which makes it easier to travel with!
*I recommend Velvetine, Tipsy & Toasted Apricot
PRIMERS
This primer , in my opinion , would fit just about any skint type! I personally have combo/oily skin with some larger pores and texture, and I love that I don't have to use 50 different primers if I want to wear makeup. This one claims to "smooth, resurface, brighten, mattify and protect" the skin, and I feel this does a great job at all those things!! If you have drier skin, however, I would say use a lighter hand .
NYX First Base Primer Spray (retail $7.99)
If you're someone that doesn't like the idea of having to rub a primer into the skin or just do not have the time, a primer spray is the way to go! Many companies are jumping on this bandwagon of creating a spray filled with vitamins and antioxidants to help prep the skin for makeup application. I've not tried too many from the drugstore, but this one is so far my favorite!! It just helps my makeup stick better onto my face and it's such a time saver when I'm feeling kinda lazy about applying primer. Also, it will be nice for all skin types. It's hydrating without making the skin super greasy !
FOUNDATION
Maybelline Fit ME! Foundation (retails $5.99)

Foundation is something that I've personally had a tougher time with because one thing that most drugstore don't do is cater to darker skin tones and it's so frustrating!! But, I think that the Maybelline Fit ME! is one of the best options on the market!! They're inexpensive, cater to many skin tones as well as skin types! There's the Dewy + Smooth for my dry skin folks, the Matte +Poreless for normal to oily skin and the OG formula for everyone (which some drugstores still carry). Also, the coverage is more on the buildable side---it's mainly a medium coverage that can go up to full coverage. Only thing that I'm not super crazy about this the packaging --I do wish it came with a pump or was in a squeeze bottle.
*I wear both the OG formula & the Matte + Poreless in 360 Mocha
Revlon Colorstay 24 hr Makeup ( retail $9.99)

To me, Revlon is like the MAC of drugstore makeup. A lot of people , when I first started wearing makeup, would compare a lot of foundations to this one. This foundation has a little more coverage than the Fit ME!, but it still can be buildable. I reach for this foundation when I know I have to wear a full face for over 9 hours of my day & it has not failed me yet! Like the Fit ME! , there's a nice selection of colors, as well as two different formulas to fit your skin type (normal/dry and combo/oily). Also, it now comes with a pump!
*I wear the Combo/Oily Skin formula in 440 Mahogany or 450 Mocha--not much difference between the two shades in my opinion
L'Oreal True Match Super Blendable Liquid Makeup (retail $8.99)

L'Oreal is generally not the best when it comes to color selection of their foundation , but I have to give them credit for the True Match line. Not only does it cater to multiple skin tones, it also caters to different undertones of the skin. Me personally , I'm more on the orange/red undertone end of the spectrum, so I have to be careful that my foundation doesn't make me look yellow and jaundiced or gray and ashy. I also can appreciate that they've released even more shades so that the very light and the very dark get some love too!!
*I wear W10 Deep Golden, N8 Cappuccino or C8 Cocoa
Wet N' Wild Photofocus Foundation (retails $4.99)
It gives amazing coverage , but does not feel cakey or thick on my face! I also like that Wet n Wild is FINALLY venturing into the deeper shades (they could do a little better, but we're making progress. Baby steps.) I'm also glad that they're slowly bringing the darker shades in store because truthfully, I probably wouldn't have ordered it online if they hadn't . What I love the most about this foundation is the packaging: I love the paddle inside the top because it helps me apply the foundation much easier so I don't have to pour it out on my hand or a separate surface.
*I use the shades Espresso & Mahogany

CONCEALER
Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Concealer (retail $7.99)

Loaded with antioxidant Actyl-C, this concealer not only covers your imperfections (dark circles, blemishes) , it also claims to improve the condition of the skin!! I can't necessarily say that it's amazing for that purpose, but as a concealer---it's superb!! A little really does go a long way!! Only thing I would change is the shade range---there's so many different undertones that aren't catered to.
*I use the shade 60 Deep
Maybelline Fit ME! Concealer (retail $5.99)

This concealer is more of a cult favorite , and I can see why. The creamy texture makes it easy to build up and blend out with ease! A person can go for more of a natural coverage or more glam without looking crazy. Like the Better Skin, I do wish they had a larger shade range (especially since the foundations do).
*I used the shade 30 Cafe
NYX HD Photogenic Concealer (retail $4.99)

If I had to pick my absolute favorite drugstore concealer, this would be it!! It's creamy yet gives amazing coverage, fairly inexpensive and comes in a wide shade range! Literally, anyone can find a color to work for them , whether to conceal/highlight/color correct! I just wish it was available in more drugstores =/
* I use the shade 08 Nutmeg
LA Girl Pro Conceal (retail $2.99)

This is another concealer that is super hyped up, yet super worth it!! The texture & coverage is similar to the NYX HD, but the squeeze tube packaging makes it easier to apply to the skin. Often times, I will use it as a foundation and it blends out perfect!! There's also a huge selection of colors to choose from!! Unlike the other concealers I've mentioned, this one is a little tougher to find since it's mostly carried in local beauty supply stores. Luckily , Ulta has just recently started carrying LA Girl in stores as well as ulta.com!!
* I use the shades Toast & Chestnut for highlighting concealer , Dark Cocoa & Espresso for spot concealing
Sephora Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer (retails $14.00)

This concealer took me a little more time to fall in love with, but I'm definitely there now!! It's more of a natural looking concealer on the skin that has very buildable coverage & the shade range is large and in charge!! There's 21 skin tone shades and 7 color correcting shades, so literally everyone can find a color for them, which I totally appreciate!! The only issue that I have with it is the price and availability---this is the most expensive concealer option I have and Sephora is also not super close to me (about 40 minutes away).
*I use 16 Pot de Creme for under eye concealer & 18 Ganache for spot concealing
Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Concealer (retail $7.99)

SETTING POWDER (CONCEALER)
ELF Perfect Finish HD Powder (Retail $6.00)

This powder is amazing for setting your concealer in place ! My concealer does so much better when I set it opposed to when I don't. It doesn't settle into my fine lines or cake up! But since I am darker, it's difficult to find a powder that is truly translucent for my skin tome & this is one of the best for me! Also, it being pressed vs. loose makes it so much easier to travel with and use overall!

SETTING POWDER (ALL OVER FACE)
Maybelline Fit ME! Powder (retails $5.99)

Like the foundation, the Fit ME! powder gives good coverage & offer a nice selection of colors. The powders also correspond with their respective foundations, which is also helpful!
*I use the Matte + Poreless powder in 360 Mocha
Black Radiance Pressed Powder (retails $4.99)

Black Radiance is another brand I feel is heavily slept on! To me, they 're like the Wet n Wild for women of color. It does a pretty good job of controlling my oil & setting my foundation without looking cakey and thick. I sometimes use this for my natural makeup days, as well, for a little extra coverage.

BRONZER/CONTOUR
Black Radiance Pressed Powder (retails $4.99)
Black Radiance Pressed Powder (retails $4.99)
Aside from setting foundation, this powder is also great at adding warmth to the face (bronzing) , as well as creating the natural shadows that foundation can take away (contouring). Its silky texture makes it easy to blend out without looking too pigmented. Plus, it's also affordable and offer a nice variety of shades for many skin tones to use! These shadows do tend to be on the warmer side, so if you want more of a cool tone color, these may not be for you.
*I switch between Rich Mahogany and Ebony

BLUSH
NYX HD Blush (retails $6.99)

NYX is easily one of my favorite drugstore brands over the last few years!! I've found some great products from them , one especially being their blushes!! They're pigmented, easy to blend out , offers a wide variety of colors and reasonable in price! I absolutely loved their original powder blushes, but I believe these ones have replaced those, which is cool because I love these just as much!
*Some of my favorite shades include Beach Babe, Deep Plum, Double Dare & Intuition
City Color Be Matte Blush (retails $4.99)

I've not tried too many things from City Color, but what I've tried so far has been absolutely amazing, mainly their blushes!! The color selection is broad enough so everyone has a color option they would enjoy, but simple enough so people won't get too overwhelmed . Also, the size is pretty good compared to the price!! I've tried a mixture of other drugstore and high end, and honestly, these perform way better than some of those!
*some of my favorite colors are Papaya, Guava and Blood Orange
ELF Blush Palette (retails $6.00)

I am crazy about these blush palettes from ELF!! They're pigmented, not super powdery, affordable & convenient! I love how you can have multiple options for one price because when you're a beginner, you may not necessarily have the funds to spend a a whole lot on a bunch of different options at once, so I think that combining a good amount of shades into one ravel friendly palette was smart on ELF's part!! I've also traveled with the DARK palette and used it as eyeshadow & they are bomb.com!!
*I own both the Light and Dark palettes
LA Colors Single Blushes (retails $1.00-2.00)

I've used these LA Colors blushes since I was back in high school and they are soooooooo underrated!! I will say , since then, they've improved the formula so they're a lot silkier and easier to apply to the cheek. Regardless of how ever many blushes I try out, I'll always have a special place for these in my heart!
*some of my favorites include Toast, Spice, Berry Plum and Sweet Cheeks
Jordana Powder Blushes (retails $2.99)

I rediscovered my Jordana blushes in my collection courtesy of my girl Smarter Beauty on YouTube, and I am kicking myself for not using them more often. They are a little on the powdery side, but the quality is way more than the price tag!! Only things I would change is the packaging---it's a little bit bulky, and the availability (the blushes are sold only in local beauty supply stores, Jordana.com or Kmart).
*try out Coral Sandy Beach, Hot Raspberry or Cinnamon Spice
Milani Baked Blushes (retails $5.99)

These are another great multipurpose product to own! Aside from being colorful blushes, many of these can also serve as a highlighter as well!! As a beginner, I think having multipurpose products is super helpful to save you both time and money!! Only downside I would say is that there aren't a lot of options for matte blush shades (there's only 2, I believe).
*I recommend Bellissimo Bronze, Red Vino, Bella Rosa, Bella Bellini and Corallina
Black Radiance Baked Blushes (retails $4.99)

If you are someone that prefers baked blushes but in a matte finish, then look no further than these!! Black Radiance is one of the most slept on brands in the drugstore to date!! I heard about these first from Beautiessentials and she was so right about them!! They are on the deeper end of color selection, so if you're more on the fair side, these may not be for you. But if you fall in the light-deep dark range of skin tones, get you some of these!!
* Warm Berry & Toasted Almond are my must haves!!
Makeup Revolution Blushes (retails $5.00-10.00)

This UK based brand had begun getting some recognition over here in the States about 2014/2015, at least by me lol. Ulta is basically my second home, so when I saw the new display for this brand pop up, I was even more interested . I remember watching another one of Beautiessentials' hauls and she had mentioned the shade "New Rules" (coral/pink/reddish orange) and knew I had to have it in my life!! To me , the formula and pigmentation is very identical to the City Color Be Matte blushes. The color selection is not the largest , though ( I think the single blushes have about 4-6 options). If you're someone that prefers a little more variety in finish and/or color, I say go for the blush palettes!
*I own 4 of the single blushes (Nude, Fusion, New Rules, Beloved) & 4 of the blush palettes (Queen, Sugar & Spice, Hot Spice, Golden Sugar 2)
Colourpop Super Shock Cheek Blushes (retails $8.00)

I'm honestly not super into cream blushes, but the ones from Colourpop have stolen my heart!! They feel like a cream when swatching, but apply to the skin like a powder. They give such a gorgeous flush of color to the skin and with them being a cream based product, they last virtually all day!! Plus, the color selection is HUGE, from super neutral to super bold shades! I did talk about these a little more in my Colourpop post , so go check that out here for more details!!
*I've been loving Quarters, Cheerio & Bardot the most!
Palladio Matte Blushes
NYX HD Blush (retails $6.99)

The only difference I really observe is the size--these are on the smaller side, which makes it easier to travel with!

HIGHLIGHTER
ELF Baked Highlighter (retails $4.00)

I actually have not heard too much about these until late 2015, specifically the shade Blush Gems. So, when my Target expended their ELF section, I had to swipe it up to see what the fuss was all about. Needless to say, I love these!! They're more of a "lit from within" kind of highlighter, opposed to the "blinding beam" highlight that most are crazy for these days. They definitely can get to that blinding level once you scrape off the top layer a bit (since these are baked, they won't be crazy pigmented during initial swatching)
ELF Baked Eyeshadows (retails $3.00)

These are definitely more of a "blinding" type of highlight compared to the Baked Highlighters, but they are well loved by me!! Also, since they're smaller, they're a little easier to travel with!! Like the Baked Highlighters, you most likely will have to scrape the top layer off a bit to get to the pigment, but once you're there, you are all the way there!!
*I love Moonlight Serenade (white gold) & Enchanted (duochrome peach gold)
Milani Strobelight Instant Glow Powder (retails $9.99)

These are a much newer favorite of mine, but for great reason!! These are more buildable, in my opinion, but literally last ALL DAY LONG. I've had my highlight on at about 10 am one day and didn't remove my makeup until 8:30 that night, and the glow was still glowing strong!! The shade range is not huge--only four shades---but they can be catered to many skin tones without difficulty!
*I am crazy about 04 Glowing (true gold)
Wet n Wild Megaglo Highlighting Powder (retails $4.99)

I remember when everyone was going crazy over these when their Spring collection was released last year & they were so hard to find! Luckily, I had stumbled upon an untouched display at Kmart and swiped up both of them!! These are easily some of the best highlighters EVER. And I mean EVER. I own a very small amount of high end highlighters & honestly, these perform just as well, if not better!! They're super wet looking on the skin, but not glittery or chunky! I'm so glad that Wet n Wild made these permanent, because everyone needs both of these!!
SETTING SPRAY
Milani Make it Last (retails $9.99)

This is my probably my absolute favorite setting spray!! It just meshes my makeup together so well and takes away the powderiness that sometimes comes with wearing a full face. I also use this prime my skin if I'm rushing & it does great at adhering my makeup to my face as well!
Wet n Wild PhotoFocus (retails $4.99)

To me , this is extremely similar to the Make it Last from Milani, with the exception on the smell. It has more of an alcohol smell, but it does go away after it sets in. The biggest complaint , however, I have about this is the size. It's SO small and should be way bigger!!
ELF Makeup Mist &Set (retails $3.00)

This was the first setting spray I had ever used , so it holds a nostalgic place in my heart! As far as setting, it's not the best to me anymore, but it's still a nice option for taking away the powderiness!!
La Girl Pro Setting HD (retails $7.00)

My makeup lasts all day with this one , just like the Milani & WNW setting sprays! It is unscented, so if you're someone that has severe allergies, this may be the one for you. But the size???? They have got to make this bigger!! 1 oz for $7 is a little steep. But the good thing about the small size is that it's very travel friendly. So if you tend to travel a lot, this may be great for you also.
Hard Candy Hydrating Primer Mist (retails $6.00)

This one I feel would be perfect for my Sahara desert dry skin folks!! The coconut water really does moisturize and leave the skin looking glowy and dewy! For me , personally, I use this in the colder months because my skin tends to be drier, whereas in the warmer months my makeup tend to slide everywhere.
Hard Candy Fast & Fabulous Setting Spray (retails $6.00)

This is also a bomb setting spray for the drugstore!! Before the Milani & WNW ones came out, I swore by this!! The cucumber smell is just addicting, I used to OD on this spray just for the smell!!
Femme Couture Get Locked Setting Spray (retails $7.99)

This is SO underrated!! It's like the Hard Candy meets the Wet n Wild spray, the smell is very cucumber based, but it holds my makeup in place all day!!
WHEW!!! We have finally made it to the end! Hopefully, you aren't too overwhelmed with all the suggestions, but I do hope that you find some great suggestions to try out for yourselves!! Thanks so much for reading and like always, Stay Beautiful!!
